Mavericks aren’t ruling Maxi Kleber injury return out in playoffs

DALLAS — Maxi Kleber is slowly taking steps toward a potential injury return in the 2024 NBA playoffs. Kleber has already been ruled out with a shoulder injury for Game 6 of the Oklahoma City Thunder-Dallas Mavericks series, but he may be able to return at some point in the playoffs if the Mavs advance.

“There is a possibility that he can return,” Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd said while speaking to reporters on Friday. “It’s great to see him get his cardio… getting with the defensive slides over there. It’s all progress, it’s all going in the right direction. I think that’s a positive for him, but also for his teammates and coaches to see him doing some basketball activity. We will see what that timeline looks like as we go forward.”

Dallas currently leads the series 3-2. They can book their ticket to the Western Conference Finals with a victory on Saturday night in Game 6. If the Mavs advance, they will battle either the Denver Nuggets or Minnesota Timberwolves.

Having Kleber available for a potential Western Conference Finals and NBA Finals appearance would be important. Kleber offers versatility as a post player, featuring the ability to stretch the floor. In fact, he was one of Dallas’ better three-point shooters before suffering his injury during the first round of the playoffs.

Jason Kidd did not reveal a specific injury timeline. He said Dallas will “see what that timeline looks like” moving forward. Kleber was seen taking some shots on Friday after the team’s practice. There is obviously work to be done, but the fact that Kleber is already getting shots up is a promising sign.

Again, the timeline remains uncertain. Perhaps there is a chance he could return late in a possible Western Conference Finals series. Of course, Dallas needs to reach that round of the postseason first.

The Mavs will look to accomplish the feat on Saturday night at 8 PM EST in Dallas. It projects to be another competitive affair as the Mavericks hope to clinch a series win over the Thunder.
